温俗：新婚三日，张乐设饮宴新妇于堂，众粲毕，集东西两行，坐观者如堵，名曰坐筵，见袁简斋《随园诗集》。至有客酬酒妇报爵之说，此文人之笔好为夸诞艳称之以为美谈，其实未尝有是也。惟阑入不禁，平视无嫌，则信有之。礼法之家，岂宜若是！今虽此风稍息，尚不能尽除，守土者为之厉禁，则可以止矣。余守郡以来，于教养、兴修诸大端悉心筹划，此事尚未及禁者。诚以礼义修则廉耻生，廉耻生则旧染革，先其本也。今年春，郡之诸绅士咸请饬禁，余曰：“可因示以罚，并准邻佑指告，而坐筵之风遂息，信乎？”上行如风，下应如草，地方官果能随时训诫，无不可易之风俗也。夫东瓯，古称小邹鲁，乃末流颓放，奢靡成习，甚至相率效尤，恬不知怪，其于风俗人心，大有关系。前永嘉县陈明府刊列婚丧礼节侈靡各条，其中有暴殄天物，显干例禁者，不一而足。业已通详大宪，一律禁止，而至今仍未尽遵行。礼曰：“国奢则示之以俭。”余窃慕《羔羊》之义，欲以节俭正直化导斯民崇实黜华，既躬行以率之矣。今而后毋染旧俗，毋犯刑章，所谓“仓廪实而知礼节，衣食足而知荣辱”。父兄子弟转相告诫，使归真反朴，上追邹鲁之风，岂独坐筵一节为当痛除积习欤？绅民其共勉之，余实有厚望焉。是为记。
